Late nights studying,
early morning blues,
because 7 AM is untimely.
Classes drag on.
The sole thought in my head
is about how great a nap would feel;
the bright lights,
excruciatingly loud hallways,
and the mocking clock
all admonish me for thinking nap time is close.
Waking up on a Friday
relieves all traces of stress
when there is Friday night lights
and time to cherish with good people.
Sundays filled with mourning
as the week is ready to commence once again.
Funny how two days fly by,
while the other five are stagnant and sluggish.
I lie in bed at night counting down the days until graduation--
freedom.
Throughout the poem, I convey a tired and aggravated mood through diction choices such as "untimely", "excruciatingly", "mocking", "admonish", "mourning", "stagnant", and "sluggish". These all convey the aggravation of school, and the exhaustion that it constantly brings. These diction choices also contrast with the last line because they show restriction and misery, while freedom is used to describe life after graduation. It shows liberty and has a positive connotation.
