Corey McMullin Assignment 2

Just One More Year
Just one more year
Stuck in this hell,
Drifting through the crowded halls.
Just one more year
Stuck in this hell,
Cramming for the next hour’s test.
Just one more year
Stuck in this hell,
Writing piss-poor essays the night before.
Just one more year
Stuck in this hell,
Having to raise our hands to pee.
Just one more year.

I went for a bitter tone. The repetition of “Just one more year” and by having it as my title exemplifies my longing for school to end. And by referring to school as “hell” I equated it to the worst place imaginable. The parallelism and repetition was intended to show the repetitive nature of school, as every day is just like the last. Now I would like to take a moment to say that this poem does not accurately display my feelings towards school. While I do agree with this, I will admit that there are many great aspects of school, but they would not have fit in with the rest of my poem.
