When I grow up I hope to go into actuarial work; it mainly focuses on calculating risks for businesses and features applied mathematics. I am currently taking Calculus 3, Numerical Analysis and have a mentoring project at the Applied Statistics Lab to get myself familiarized with all modes of mathematical thinking and actual hands on experience with applied mathematics. I've always understood numbers and have wanted to make a practical use out of it.
But that's not all. Growing up I was in and out of physical therapy for about 6 years for shoulder/rotator cuff/back damage and become generally familiarized with the practice. I have always enjoyed being physically active and being a more science oriented individual, I became attracted to sports medicine. I have been offered opportunities to shadow and intern at places where I could put into practice what I know. For me I would like such a career because I would be able to help someone continue to do what they love (staying active) while doing what I love (helping others and being involved in physical activities). Furthermore, since I personally experienced the struggle it was to recover from a chronic injury I want to study it more and see if I could find more effective treatments and approaches.
While doing all of this I would love to be multilingual. I have always enjoyed languages and see how people can connect through them and would love to incorporate that into my life and career. I grew up speaking Hebrew and Chinese, now knowing English and Spanish as well. I would love to continue my study of languages and cultures and travel while accomplishing my career goals. The most important however is that I end up in a situation where I am happy with myself and my surroundings.
