Alex Cooper Assignment 5

For a while now I have wanted to be a pharmacist. What first sparked my interest I believe, is when my mom was a pharmacy technician. She would tell me what she did at work and I thought it sounded interesting, I did some research on pharmacy and fell in love. My life has been greatly affected by cancer, having lost my father, and now, one of our good family friends has breast cancer. This has caused me to choose my focus in pharmacy, oncology. An oncology pharmacist works with the doctors in cancer patient care, and helps to come up with a plan for chemo and other medications, as well as making the chemotherapy drugs. There is also direct patient care involved, the oncology pharmacist is responsible for talking to the patient about the kind of medicines that will be in the chemo and they will have to take at home, as well as the side effects of them.
To become and oncology pharmacist I will go to pre-pharmacy school, and my goal is to complete the prerequisites to be accepted into pharmacy school after two years. The focus on science and math necessary to pursue pharmacy is my strong suit. I also hope to be able to do research and be able to help towards this “cure” for cancer. Until that cure is found though, I want to help those who are touched by this horrible disease, beat it, and hopefully make the whole process for them, and their families, just slightly simpler.
