Amelia Caldwell Assignment 5

Even before I could read, I was a teacher at heart. I would line up my stuffed animals in a row and "read" to them from The Hobbit, although, as my mother has told me, half of the time the book was upside down.

Once I actually began school, my passion for learning grew tremendously. I was blessed to have, in my opinion, the best Kindergarten and 1st Grade teacher in the world. She inspired me to be the best I could be, and was always willing to help. My brother, who is two years older than me, had the same teacher when he was in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. When he was having trouble with his 2nd and 3rd Grade teacher because of his handwriting, our Kingergarten teacher took action and helped him outside of school, along with her usual activites and requirements. I have had many other teachers like this, and I appreciate all they do for students.

Last fall, I began working in the Kindergarten-3rd Grade Children's Ministry at my church, and I have loved every moment. We have had serious moments, funny moments, and messy moments. Working with the Children's Ministry team and working with the children has supported my decision to pursue Elementary Education.

The next four years are going to be very different than what I am used to, because I will be learning how to teach instead of just memorizing what I need to know for a test. I know this is going to be a challenge, but it is one I am willing to accept.

When people hear that I want to be an elementary teacher, they say, "Oh wow. Good luck with that." I don't need luck, children are the most amazing people adults can talk to. We can learn so much from the minds of the innocent, and I cannot wait to work alongside these young learners and future leaders.
